The Hebrew word “qadash” and the Greek word “hagiazó”, which are translated in English as “sanctify”, mean to take something that is common and ordinary and make it distinct. Which are action verbs that mean “to set something apart”. For example, when God created the heavens and the earth, he “worked” and created different things in the heavens and on the earth in six ordinary days, which were ordinary cycles of “evening and morning”.
And God said, “Let there be light”… And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.
Genesis 1:3-5
And God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters”… And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.
Genesis 1:6-8
And God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear”… And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth”… And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.
Genesis 1:9-13
And God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for appointed times, and for days and years, and let them be lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light upon the earth”… And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.
Genesis 1:14-19
And God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living souls, and let birds fly above the earth across the firmament of the heavens”… And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.
Genesis 1:20-23
And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living souls according to their kind, livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds”… Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth”… And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
Genesis 1:24-31
For in six days the Master made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them…
Exodus 20:11
Yet on the seventh ordinary cycle of “evening and morning”, which was the seventh day, God “set this day apart” by resting on it, unlike the other six ordinary days he worked to create the heavens and the earth.
And God blessed the seventh day and set it apart, because on it he rested from all his work which God in creating had made.
Genesis 2:3
For in six days the Master made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Master blessed the Shabbath day and set it apart.
Exodus 20:11
Which can be compared to a man having 5 light bulbs that are turned off and upside down, yet he decides to set apart 1 light bulb from the others by turning it around and turning it on. It now becomes different and distinct from the others.
And thus, what has been set apart from the ordinary then becomes “set-apart”, which is the Hebrew word “qadosh” and the Greek word “hagios”, which are translated in English as “holy”. Which are descriptive adjectives or adverbs that mean the quality of being “set-apart”. For example, if many fruits are put in one place all of one color, but one is placed among them of a different color, that one fruit of a different color is “set-apart”, because it is different from the other ordinary fruits.
And this is why the English words “sanctify”, “sanctification”, “holy”, “holiness” are all mistranslations of the original words, because neither of these words convey the simple meanings of what the original words truly meant, which is the action of setting apart from the ordinary and common, and the quality of being set-apart from the ordinary and common. Which are two Hebrew words that are based on the same root word “qodesh”, which can be translated as “set-apartness”, used as a noun. And this is why the same Hebrew word “qadash” typically translated as “sanctify” does not mean “sanctify” in the following passage, because it means “to set apart”. Which is a meaning that can be used in a more general sense, such as in the example of the light bulb and fruits above.
For I will set apart destroyers against you, Each with his weapons; And they will cut down your choicest cedars And throw them on the fire.
Jeremiah 22:7
And this is why the opposite of set-apart is ordinary, just as the opposite of clean is unclean.
so as to make a distinction between the set-apart and the ordinary, and between the unclean and the clean,
Leviticus 10:10
And the priest answered David and said, “There is no ordinary bread on hand, but there is set-apart bread, provided the young men have kept themselves from women.”
1 Samuel 21:4
And this is also why something that is “set-apart” has greater value than something that is ordinary, because something that is less common has greater value than something that is more common, like silver, which is more valuable than wood because it is less common than wood. And gold, which is more valuable than silver because it is less common than silver. And common things in a household today will likely be wood floors that people step on and walk on, or clay pots used in the kitchen. Whereas less common things in the household will likely be silver bars and gold bars kept in a safe to preserve wealth.
If, then, anyone cleanses himself from these matters, he shall be a vessel unto value, having been set apart, of good use to the Master, having been prepared for every good work.
2 Timothy 2:21
Or hasn’t the potter a right over the clay, from the same lump to make one part a vessel for honor, and another for no honor?
Romans 9:21
Now in a large house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of clay. Some are for honor, and some for no honor.
2 Timothy 2:20
And in relation to the value of set-apartness, “to set apart someone in your heart” means to hold someone in high value, honor, regard, and importance.
but in your hearts set apart the Messiah as Master, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,
1 Peter 3:15

Numbers 20:12-13
Which is why something declared by God to be set-apart must be treated with high value, honor, regard, and importance, such as the ground itself God descended on when God spoke to Moses. Which is why God told Moses to take off his sandals, to treat that ground differently than other ordinary grounds.
And the Messenger the Master appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. And he looked and saw the bush burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, “Let me turn aside now, and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.”And the Master saw that he turned aside to see, and God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses! Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”And He said, “Do not come near here. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is set-apart ground.”

Exodus 19:23
Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because the Master descended on it in fire. The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, and the whole mountain trembled violently.
Exodus 19:18
And whatever things existed on the grounds of Mount Sinai, like trees and rocks, subsequently also became set-apart, which is why it is written, “if the root is set-apart, so are the branches”.
Now if the first fruits is set-apart, the lump is also. And if the root is set-apart, so are the branches.
Romans 11:16
Yet if a rock was taken from the grounds of Mount Sinai and thrown outside the boundaries of Mount Sinai, that rock would not cause the ground it falls on to become set-apart, but quite the contrary, now the rock becomes ordinary, because it is no longer on the grounds of Mount Sinai. Which is the same as if set-apart branches are cut off from a tree that is sustained by a root that sets it all apart, which then, when the branches fall to the ground, all its leaves and fruit whither and die, which then becomes ordinary.
“If one bears set-apart meat in the fold of his garment, and with the edge he touches bread or stew, or wine or oil, or any food, does it become set-apart?” And the priests answered and said, “No.” Then Haggai said, “If someone who is unclean by contact with a dead body touches any of these, does it become unclean?” The priests answered and said, “It does become unclean.”

Keep them and do them, for that will be your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who, when they hear all these statutes, will say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’
Deuteronomy 4:5-6
Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her; those who hold her fast will be blessed.

1 Corinthians 16:20
And certain times have also been set apart by God, such as the appointed times of the Torah, the Yovel year of the Torah, which happens every 50 years, and the Shabbath day, which is the seventh day of the week. Which unlike ordinary days and years, specific things are commanded by God in these set-apart times.
These are the appointed times of the Master, set-apart gatherings which you are to proclaim at their appointed times. ‘In the first new moon, on the fourteenth day of the new moon, in the time before the evening, is the Passover to the Master. And on the fifteenth day of this new moon is the Festival of Unleavened Bread to the Master, seven days you shall eat unleavened bread.

There were three gates on the east, three on the north, three on the south and three on the west. The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb… The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass. The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, the fifth onyx, the sixth ruby, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth turquoise, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Zechariah 14:5
And the airflow of God is also set-apart, because unlike ordinary winds that are not living, the airflow of God is living, because it is a body of airflow that an angel of God transforms itself into, an aeolian body, and is thus called “set-apart airflow”.

1 Corinthians 14:31-32
And thus, everything God does is set-apart, in righteousness, goodness, wisdom, power, trustworthiness, greater than anything man does and can do, which is why he is also called set-apart. And unlike any of the ordinary gods among men who are false, only he is the true God. Who is set apart from his own creation in another distinct way that only applies to him, that only God was never created, whereas everything in creation had a beginning, which is also why he is called “Father”.

1 Samuel 2:2
And one cried to another and said, “Set-apart, set-apart, set-apart is the Master of armies; all the earth is filled with his glory!”
Isaiah 6:3
As such, set-apartness can come in varying measures, where one set-apart thing can be more set-apart than something else that is set-apart. Just as a house may have many articles of wood that are common, but then have 10 articles of silver that are set-apart, and only 1 article of gold that is more set-apart than than the silver and of greatest value among all the articles in the house. Which in the case of the tabernacle or temple of God, the surrounding camp or city it stood in is set-apart.
For the Master your God walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you and give your enemies over to you. Therefore your camp shall be set-apart, so that He does not see unclean matter among you, and shall turn away from you.

And with it you shall anoint the Tent of Appointment and the Ark of the Witness,” and the table and all its utensils, and the menorah and its utensils, and the altar of incense, and the altar of ascending offering with all its utensils, and the basin and its stand. “And you shall set them apart, and they shall be most set-apart. Note: These photos are mere models of the ancient tabernacle and temple used to give a visual idea of what the tabernacle and temple looked like, and not an exact representation of what they truly looked like before, and may contain inaccuracies, such as the exact placement of the altar and bronze lavar, which in the temple model may be incorrect, but in the tabernacle model it is correct, for the bronze lavar was to be placed between the altar and the entrance to the Tent of Meeting according to the Torah.
Which is one reason the Mashiach spoke against the Pharisees, because they were more concerned about money than the set-apart things of God. Which is why they considered oaths by the gold of the temple binding, yet did not consider the oaths by the temple binding, even though the temple had greater value than the gold. Because it was the temple that set apart the gold from any other ordinary gold anywhere on the earth, because the gold was in the place where the presence of God dwelled. And because the true God dwelled in this temple, the temple itself thus became set apart by God from other ordinary temples on the earth where God did not dwell. And so, God is greater than the temple and sets the temple apart, and the temple is greater than the gold in the temple and sets the gold in the temple apart.
There I will meet with the people of Israel, and it shall be set apart by my glory.
Exodus 29:43
“Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’ You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sets the gold apart? And you say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it is nothing, but if anyone swears by the gift that is on the altar, he is bound by his oath.’ You blind men! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that sets the gift apart? So whoever swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it. And whoever swears by the temple swears by it and by him who dwells in it. And whoever swears by heaven swears by the throne of God and by him who sits upon it.
Matthew 23:16-22
The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things, and they ridiculed him.
Luke 16:14
Then after the inner court is the tent or temple, which is more set-apart than the inner court, which is where the menorah, altar of incense, and table of the bread of the presence are, which is called “the set-apart place”. Which only the priests could enter into. Then after the set-apart place is “the most set-apart place”, which was behind a veil within the tabernacle or temple structure. Which is where the Ark of the Covenant was, and where the presence of God remained. And could only be entered into by one man, the High Priest, only once a year.
These preparations having thus been made, the priests go regularly into the first section, performing their ritual duties, but into the second only the high priest goes, and he but once a year, and not without taking blood, which he offers for himself and for the unintentional sins of the people.
Hebrews 9:6-7
And in similar manner, certain men are more set-apart than others, such as the High Priest, who was more set-apart than the other set-apart priests. And had had greater authority, tasks, and also more glorious garments than the other priests.
And you shall make set-apart garments for Aaron your brother, for glory and for beauty. You shall speak to all the skillful, whom I have filled with a airflow of skill, that they make Aaron’s garments to set him apart for my priesthood. These are the garments that they shall make: a breastpiece, an ephod, a robe, a checked tunic, a turban, and a sash.
Exodus 28:2-4
For Aaron’s sons you shall make tunics and sashes and caps. You shall make them for glory and beauty.
Exodus 28:40
And also some angels of God are more set-apart than other set-apart angels of God.
The prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days, but Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I was left there with the kings of Persia,
